It’s not always about what you’re doing, it’s about why you’re doing it.

It’s not always about what you’re doing, it’s about why you’re doing it!

Everyone thought David was being a bit ambitious when he wanted to completely renovate 3000 5th ave and open a new San Diego hair studio in February. With some hard work, determination and help from key people involved, that ambitious goal is coming to fruition.

Why are we building out this space? We’ve gone rogue from the standard salon (an establishment where a hairdresser, beautician or couturier conducts business). We are building a studio (place where an artist works, a place where people go to learn, practice, or study an art). We are creating a space that reflects who we are, what we do and most importantly, why we do it. We are not interested in merely “conducting business” we are always seeking, “the connections and relationships built by those magical moments in transforming how a person feels” – Tina Valencia and “making a difference in people from the way they look to how they feel.” –David Valencia

Why the name V Collective? V for Valencia and Collective because it’s all about individuals coming together. There is more to the local movement than just food. From David’s experiences of his circus days traveling around the world and Tina’s grounded knowledge of San Diego as a 3rd generation local, collectively they feel a great sense of appreciation and responsibility for their community. With that sense of appreciation and responsibility, they have selectively partnered with individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations to create their new hair studio.

LBP Front Row was truly an epic and unforgettable event!

V Collective Front Row 070 V Collective Front Row 069 V Collective Front Row 071LBP Front Row was truly an epic and unforgettable event! Highlights from the event include:

-r + co Howard McLaren’s video premier, The Reset, lifts the veil on the beauty industry and exposes a fear-based resistance to innovation. Watch it! http://luxurybrandpartners.com/reset-documentary/#watch

-Natasha Leggero, comedienne extraordinaire kept us laughing as the host of the show.

-Eden Sassoon, daughter of the late great Vidal Sassoon and her mother, Beverly, shared the stage for a moving tribute to the legend.

-Jim Collins, author of Good to Great was the keynote speaker, and inspired us on another level.V Collective Miami LBP Front Row V Collective Front Row 070 (1) V Collective Front Row 071 (1) V Collective Front Row 072 (1) V Collective Front Row 073 V Collective Front Row 074 V Collective Front Row 069

-Entertainment industry triple threat, Rose McGowan, used the Front Row stage to debut her new single “RM486.”

-Smith & Cult took the audience into the mind (and dream) of a beauty junkie that involved gay ponies dancing, a glitter pillow fight, and a robbery that ended in a dance party.

-V76 opened with a heartfelt tribute to the late David Bowie, and then moved the audience to tears with an emotional segment where Vaughn styled his son, Zane.

Walking the streets of the Wynnwood District in Miami took us back to the magical time of the rise of the house of bumble in the Meatpacking District in New York. The people who were the heart and soul of bumble and bumble from the creative and education directors, to marketing directors to VP and President are all wrapped in a bigger and more infuential package, LBP (Luxury Brand Partners) which houses r+co, Oribe, V76 and Smith & Cult. They are doing it again but in a bigger and better way! With their finger on the pulse of the up and coming art and design district, they are building The Miami Studios in the Wynwood District. Set to be an education facility with a hotel, restaurants, and retail, we can’t wait to get back when it’s completed.

We pushed The Reset button long ago. With clear vision, we are proud to have aligned with the true leaders in our industry. With gratitude, we appreciate all of you, our loyal clients who trust and support us through this journey.

David and Tina Valencia ring in the New Year!

“This year has been monumental for our industry and Luxury Brand Partners – our portfolio of high-quality products continues to develop, our groundbreaking education events are inspiring stylists world-wide and our network of partner salons is expanding to include the best of the best in the business. While we keep pushing to elevate our industry, we invite you to join the mission so we can raise the bar together.

We challenge you – as stylists, colorists and salon owners – to up the ante and leave mediocrity behind.” Tev Finger, president LBP

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! We are proud to have joined that mission and we are grateful to our loyal clients who continue to support us through this process of growth and change.  This month, we are looking forward to attending LBP front row in Miami, the 4-day hair festival of “epic proportions” and can’t wait to translate our experience to your hair experience.

Reflecting on 2015, you could say we definitely went out with a bang! Selling dk hair was abrupt (our sincere apologies) and starting V Collective has taken off at lightening speed. Along this fast and furious journey we have rediscovered our passion for our craft of hairdressing. Goldwell has gone above and beyond our expectations for a color line and the experience of “painting” hair to match our haircuts has been rewarding. One stylist, one vision, perfect execution! We’re also having so much fun experimenting with Oribe products, especially the range and performance of the curl line.

As the dust is settling at our pop-up location downtown and the dust is kicking up in our permanent location in Bankers Hill, follow us on facebook for the latest updates and events and instagram (@V_COLLECTIVE) for hair inspiration. Wishing you all the best in 2016!
