Tina Valencia LBP Front Row Portfolio Winner!

WAHOO!!!  I WON THE GRAND PRIZE FOR THE LBP FRONT ROW PORTFOLIO CONTEST!   The contest was to recreate an inspirational moment from LBP Front row in Miami, aka the hair festival of epic proportions.   Surrounded by art.  Street, hair, comedy, performance.  They are all art forms in my eyes and I loved that lbp front row gave me the full immersion.  My inspiration came from many moments so to narrow it down almost seems unfair.  The “moment” that caught my attention was a line drawing by Adrian Avila in the artist gallery.  As crafty as I am, my drawings, head sheets etc. always look like they came from a 5-year-old, so I hold a lot of admiration for this particular art form.  My submission is my interpretation of this drawing with a hint of inspiration from James Pecis and a sprinkle of Smith & Cult.   Products used:  Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, R + Co Outerspace   Special thanks to my photographer husband, David Valencia and my favorite model Kali Passiglia! #dreamteam FullSizeRender

Studio Tuesdays. How to cut curly hair for shape while maintaining length.

David Valencia, aka the curly hair guru, shows you how to do a curly hair dry cut.  In this video, he shares his curly hair technique that loosens and frees the curls, creating a beautiful shape without taking any length.  Much like a sculptor, he sees the entire composition and interplay between positive and negative space.  This is a great tutorial for seasoned hairstylists and also a great video for curly hair clients that are seeking something new.

Most people with curly hair can identify with how much longer it takes to grow out, how much harder it is to maintain the health and integrity of curls and the struggle with finding the right product combination to tame frizz without weighing it down.  Click here to see how David transforms her curls.
